We fit shelving, drawers and hanging space to the measurements of each closet, from tall, narrow closets in older borough homes to large walk-ins in newer subdivisions nearby. Our own team installs every system. The design consultation and estimate are free, and we have been in business since 2007.
Closet systems for Pottstown’s two kinds of homes
Pottstown sits at the western edge of Montgomery County on the Schuylkill River, close to the Chester and Berks county lines. The borough itself is built around High Street, with rowhomes, twins and large Victorian-era houses on its older blocks. The townships around it, including Lower, Upper and West Pottsgrove, have grown with newer subdivisions along the Route 422 corridor.
| Home | Typical closet | Suggested design |
|---|---|---|
| Victorian or older single | Tall, narrow closets, high ceilings | A second hanging level, shelving to the ceiling, drawers |
| Rowhome or twin | Shallow bedroom closets, few of them | Shallow shelving, double hanging, a wardrobe where needed |
| Newer subdivision home | A walk-in and reach-ins with wire shelving | Full built-in systems, drawer banks, shoe walls |
Using the height in older Pottstown closets
Older houses in the borough often have high ceilings, and their closets go up just as far. That height is usually wasted above one rod and one shelf. A built-in system turns it into storage: double hanging in the lower half, a drawer stack beside it, and adjustable shelves that climb to the ceiling for bins, luggage and off-season clothes. In the narrowest closets, shallow shelving and drawers often hold more than hanging would.
Rowhome and twin closets in the borough
Pottstown’s rowhomes and twins usually have one small closet per bedroom and very little storage elsewhere. In those homes, every closet has to hold more than it was built for. We start with the shallowest closets, because they are the hardest: when a hanger will not fit straight, hanging space is limited to where the depth allows and the rest becomes shelving and drawers. Wider closets get double hanging and a drawer stack.
Where a bedroom has no closet, a custom wardrobe closet adds one without construction. And because rowhomes rarely have a mudroom, a narrow bench with hooks and cubbies near the back door, or a rebuilt coat closet, gives coats and shoes a place to go.
Built-in systems for newer homes
Newer homes near Pottstown usually come with wire shelving. We replace it with a fastened system built from 3/4” furniture-grade boards, with options including adjustable shelving and soft-close drawers in many finishes. In the primary walk-in that means towers on each wall, a drawer bank and a shoe wall, with an island if the space allows. Our guide to closet drawer sizes and layout is useful reading before you choose how many drawers you need.
Mudrooms and garage storage
Most newer homes here are entered through the garage, so that is where coats, boots, backpacks and sports gear collect. A mudroom with a bench, cubbies and hooks gives each person a spot; see our mudroom storage options. In the garage itself, wall cabinets, a workbench and slatwall clear the floor. Our Montgomery County garage storage page shows how.
Other rooms
We also design pantries with adjustable shelves and pull-outs, laundry rooms with cabinets and folding counters, home office built-ins and Murphy beds. Planning several rooms in one consultation keeps the finishes consistent and lets the installation happen together. In the larger older homes, a third-floor room or a finished basement can also take a wardrobe closet for off-season clothes, which frees the bedroom closets for what you wear now.
Scheduling a consultation in Pottstown
Pottstown is at the far western end of our service area, and we plan our visits there like anywhere else in the county: a designer comes to your home, measures, talks through what you need to store, then sends a 3D design and estimate you can revise before anything is ordered. There is no obligation to go ahead. Our custom closet cost guide explains how projects are priced. For other towns, see our Montgomery County custom closet design hub.
