Custom closet systems for Gwynedd Valley homes
Gwynedd Valley is a village in Lower Gwynedd Township, home to Gwynedd Mercy University and a stop on the Lansdale/Doylestown train line. Its homes are mostly single-family houses on larger, often wooded lots: older stone houses and farmhouses, and larger colonials and custom homes built in later decades.
In homes like these, the primary closet is often a real room, but builders tend to finish it with a rod around the walls and a single shelf. The space is there; the storage is not. A custom closet system turns that room into something closer to a dressing room.
Walk-in closet design, wall by wall
We plan a Gwynedd Valley walk-in one wall at a time, with the walkway kept clear.
| Wall or zone | Suggested design |
|---|---|
| Long wall | Hanging towers with double and long hanging, shelves above to the ceiling |
| Short wall | A drawer bank with soft-close drawers and jewelry or accessory inserts |
| Shoe wall | Flat or angled shoe shelving sized to the shoes you own |
| Center | An island with drawers and a top for folding, where the floor allows |
| Corners | Corner shelving so nothing is wasted |
All of it is built from 3/4” furniture-grade boards, with many finishes and hardware options. Our walk-in closet page shows finished examples, and our walk-in closet design tips cover layout rules worth knowing before the consultation.
Closets in older stone houses and farmhouses
Not every Gwynedd Valley home has a large walk-in. The older stone houses and farmhouses here were built long before closets were standard, so bedrooms may have a small closet added later, a closet set into thick walls, or none at all. Those rooms need a different approach from a modern primary suite:
- Closets in thick walls are often deep but narrow. We use the depth for drawers and shelving and hang only where the width allows.
- Added-on closets may have uneven walls and floors. Every system is built to measurements, so we plan for what is there rather than what a standard closet would be.
- Rooms with no closet can take a custom wardrobe closet, a stand-alone unit with doors that adds storage without opening walls.
Finishes can be chosen to suit older trim and floors, so the storage looks like it belongs to the house.
Shared closets with two sides
Many primary closets here are shared, and splitting the space evenly rarely works because two people rarely own the same mix of clothes. We design each side on its own: more long hanging on one side, more drawers or shoe shelving on the other. A shared island can hold watches, jewelry and accessories for both.
Drawers and accessories
Drawers do much of the work in a large closet. Our closet drawer systems include deep drawers for sweaters, shallow ones for accessories, and dividers and inserts for jewelry, ties and belts. Pull-out hampers and full-length mirrors can be added where they help.
Beyond the primary closet
The same approach works in the rest of the house. Guest room closets get flexible hanging and shelving. A laundry room can take cabinets, a folding counter and a drying rod. Garages get cabinets, workbenches and slatwall. A study can take a home office built-in with a desk and shelving.
