Closets for King of Prussia’s newer homes and townhomes
King of Prussia is an unincorporated community in Upper Merion Township, next to Valley Forge National Historical Park and widely known for its shopping and office centers. It has more newer housing than most of Montgomery County: townhome communities, condos and apartments built over the last few decades, alongside streets of mid-century ranches, split-levels and Cape Cods.
Newer homes usually have enough closets, but they come with wire shelving and one rod. That leaves the corners, the space above the shelf, and the lower half of every closet unused. A built-in closet system fixes all three.
Built-in closet systems vs. builder-grade wire shelving
| Builder wire shelving | Closets For Less built-in system | |
|---|---|---|
| Hanging | One rod, one height | Double and long hanging, sized to your clothes |
| Folded storage | Wire shelf that bends and drops small items | Soft-close drawers and solid adjustable shelves |
| Height used | Stops at the single shelf | Shelving to the ceiling |
| Corners | Usually empty | Corner shelving or towers |
| Material | Coated wire | 3/4” furniture-grade boards in many finishes |
Walk-in closets
In a townhome or newer single home, the primary walk-in is often a good size but laid out as an empty box. Our walk-in closet designs put towers on each wall with a mix of hanging, drawers and shoe shelving, and add an island when the floor space allows. A clear walkway always comes first.
Reach-in closets for the mid-century homes
The ranches and split-levels in King of Prussia usually have narrow bedroom reach-ins. Double hanging, a center drawer stack and shelves above can roughly double what one holds. See our reach-in closets page for the layouts we use. Where a bedroom or basement room has no closet at all, a custom wardrobe closet adds one without construction.
Coat, linen and utility closets in townhomes
In a King of Prussia townhome, the smaller closets often matter as much as the bedroom ones. The coat closet by the front door, the linen closet in the hall and the utility closet that hides the vacuum all tend to be a rod and a shelf with a pile on the floor. Fitting them properly frees up the rest of the home:
- Coat closet: a shorter hanging rod, hooks for bags, a shoe shelf, and a high shelf for hats and gloves
- Linen closet: adjustable shelves spaced for towels and sheets, with pull-outs for small items
- Utility closet: tall open space for the vacuum and mop, with shelves above for supplies
In a townhouse without basement storage, these closets are often the difference between a tidy home and a spare room full of boxes.
What to have ready for your consultation
After the free in-home visit you receive a 3D design and an estimate to review and revise before anything is ordered. You will get more from it if you think through a few things first:
- Who uses the closet and what they need to hang, fold and shelve
- How many pairs of shoes need a place
- Whether you want drawers in the closet so a dresser can go
- The finish and hardware you like
- A rough budget, so the design can be sized to it
Whole-home storage in Upper Merion
Many King of Prussia homeowners also want storage beyond the closet: pantries, laundry and mudroom storage, garage cabinets, home offices, entertainment centers and Murphy beds. Those projects are covered on our Upper Merion custom storage page, since they apply across the whole township.
Cost
A King of Prussia closet is priced by size, layout, accessories and finish. Our custom closet cost guide walks through each factor before your consultation. If the full design is more than you want to spend at once, we can phase it: the primary closet first, the reach-ins and smaller closets later, all from the same design so the finishes match.
