Closets For Less is a custom closet company serving Haverford, PA, designing built-in closet systems for its stone colonials, Tudors and twins and for the postwar colonials of Havertown nearby. Each closet is measured in your home, planned for what you store and installed by our own team. We are locally owned, based in Warminster, in business since 2007, and the design consultation is free.
Haverford homes and their closets
Haverford sits on the line between Lower Merion Township in Montgomery County and Haverford Township in Delaware County, with Haverford College at its center. On the Main Line side, houses are mostly stone and stucco colonials, Tudor revivals and large twins from the early 1900s. Haverford Township, which also includes Havertown, adds blocks of twins, rowhomes and colonials built from the 1920s through the 1950s.
The two halves need different kinds of closets:
| Home type | Typical closet | What tends to fit |
|---|---|---|
| Stone colonial or Tudor | Shallow bedroom closets, a third floor under the roof | Reach-in systems and closets planned around the slope |
| Large twin | Small closets, deep linen closet | Double hang, drawers, rebuilt linen shelving |
| Havertown twin or rowhome | One small closet per bedroom | Full reach-in system with shelves to the ceiling |
| 1940s and 1950s colonial | One rod, one wood shelf | Double hang, adjustable shelves and a drawer stack |
| Renovated primary suite | New walk-in with no system | Walk-in with drawers, shoe storage and an island |
Built-in closet systems for bedrooms
The most common Haverford project is turning a bedroom reach-in into a closet that holds a full wardrobe. A built-in system replaces the single rod and shelf with double hanging for shirts and pants, a long-hang section, adjustable shelves that run toward the ceiling and a drawer stack where the width allows. See our reach-in closet designs for typical layouts.
Because every system is measured for its closet, it handles the shallow depths, plaster walls and slightly out-of-square corners that come with a hundred-year-old house.
Walk-in closets in renovated homes
When a Haverford house gets a new primary suite, the walk-in is usually built from part of another room. The design places hanging on the longest walls, drawers under any window and shoe shelves on the narrow walls, with an island if the room is large enough. Accessories such as a jewelry drawer, belt and tie racks and a valet rod are added where they help.
Mudrooms, linen closets and pantries
Older Haverford homes rarely have a mudroom. The back hall or side door collects coats, boots, backpacks and sports gear, and a mudroom with lockers, a bench and cubbies gives each person a place. Even a narrow back hall can take a run of hooks, a bench with drawers below and shelves above.
Linen closets in these houses have deep wood shelves where towels and sheets get lost at the back. Shallower adjustable shelves and a couple of drawers make everything visible. In the kitchen, a pantry rebuilt with adjustable shelving and pull-outs uses the full height of the space.
Garage and basement storage
Many Haverford and Havertown houses have a detached or one-car garage, and the basement takes the overflow. Garage cabinets, slatwall and a workbench clear the floor, and basement shelving or cabinets keep seasonal items off the ground.
Built from durable materials
Every system is custom designed for the space and installed by our own team, using 3/4” furniture-grade boards, with options including adjustable shelving and soft-close drawers. You can pick from many finishes, from white to wood grain, and hardware to match the house. The design comes to you for review, and you can request changes before anything is ordered.
What a custom closet costs in Haverford
The total depends on the size of the closet, the number of drawers, the finish and the accessories. A Havertown reach-in is a smaller project than a dressing room with an island. The consultation and estimate are free, and our custom closet cost guide explains what each choice adds.
